Vineet Kumar, PhD, Central University of Rajasthan, India

Dr Vineet Kumar is currently working as a National Postdoctoral Fellow at the Central University of Rajasthan, India. His research interests encompass metagenomics, wastewater treatment, waste management, waste valorization, bioremediation, phytoremediation, and bioenergy production. Dr Kumar has published more than 55 articles in reputable peer-reviewed international journals, along with 24 books and 54 book chapters from international publishers. He actively contributes as a guest editor and reviewer for over 60 international journals in his field of expertise. Additionally, Dr Kumar currently serves the position of President at the Society for Green Environment, India, and is an esteemed member of several scientific societies, including the Microbiology Society (UK).


About the Collection

BMC Environmental Science is calling for submissions to our Collection on the opportunities of microbiome engineering for sustainability.

The study of microbiome engineering and its implications for environmental sustainability has gained significant attention in recent years. This field encompasses the manipulation and optimization of microbial communities to address environmental challenges, such as bioremediation, soil health, and sustainable agriculture. Researchers have explored the potential of microbial consortia, synthetic biology, and bioprocess optimization to develop innovative solutions for environmental sustainability.

Recent advances have demonstrated the capacity of microbial communities to contribute to carbon sequestration, wastewater treatment, and the development of biofertilizers, highlighting the promise of microbiome engineering for sustainable resource management and ecosystem services. 

This timely Collection welcomes submissions on:

  • Microbiome engineering for bioremediation
  • Synthetic biology for environmental sustainability
  • Soil health and sustainable agriculture
  • Microbial consortia in wastewater treatment
  • Bioprocess optimization for renewable resources
  • Marine microbiome restoration


This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 12: Responsible Consumption & ProductionSDG 14: Life Below Water, and SDG 15: Life on Land.

This Collection welcomes submission of original Research Articles. The Editors have no competing interests with the submissions which they handle through the peer review process. The peer review of any submissions for which the Editors have competing interests is handled by another Editorial Board Member who has no competing interests.
