Iman Azimi, PhD, University of California Irvine, USA

Iman Azimi, PhD, received his PhD in Information and Communication Technology in 2019 from the University of Turku, Finland. He obtained his MSc degree in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics from the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy in 2014. He is currently a Postdoctoral researcher at the University of California Irvine, and serves as Assistant Director at the UCI Institute for Future Health. Additionally, Dr Azimi is an adjunct professor of Health Data Analytics at the University of Turku, Finland. His research spans biomedical signal processing, machine learning/deep learning, and GenAI in healthcare. He contributes to mHealth projects, with a focus on mental health, maternal health, and personalized data analytics.

About the Collection

BMC Biomedical engineering is calling for submissions to our upcoming Collection, Medical wearable technologies.

Medical wearable technologies are becoming increasingly widespread as the importance of personalized medicine and accurate monitoring is recognized. 

The last few years have seen unprecedented improvements in the accuracy of wearable devices. This in turn has led to increasing applications in the medical field as more and more equipment is designed to be operated by the end user, with advice from medical professionals. This improves usability, with some equipment being operated from the comfort of the patient’s home, without compromising accuracy. Preventive medicine also largely benefits from the use of these technologies.

This Collection welcomes submissions on the development, improvement, design and/or repurposing of medical wearable technologies.

In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal SDG 3, which seeks to ensure health and well-being for all, this collection emphasizes the importance of improving healthcare accessibility and promoting well-being through technological advancements in the biomedical engineering domain.

Submission Guidelines

This Collection welcomes submission of original Research Articles and Software Articles. Review articles will be considered at the Editor’s discretion. Should you wish to submit a different article type, please read our submission guidelines to confirm that type is accepted by the journal. Articles for this Collection should be submitted via our submission system, Snapp. During the submission process you will be asked whether you are submitting to a Collection, please select "Medical wearable technologies" from the dropdown menu.

Articles will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process and are subject to all of the journal’s standard policies. Articles will be added to the Collection as they are published.

The Editors have no competing interests with the submissions which they handle through the peer review process. The peer review of any submissions for which the Editors have competing interests is handled by another Editorial Board Member who has no competing interests.
