About the Collection

Set of medical dental equipment, dental floss and mask on x-rayBMC Oral Health is pleased to announce our upcoming Collection on Oral complications from cancer treatment. These complications present a significant challenge for patients, impacting their quality of life and overall treatment outcomes. Treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy can lead to a range of oral health issues, including mucositis, xerostomia (dry mouth), and osteonecrosis of the jaw. These complications can cause discomfort and pain and hinder the patient's ability to eat, speak, and maintain proper oral hygiene. Understanding the mechanisms behind these complications is crucial for developing effective preventive and therapeutic strategies.

Advancing our collective understanding in this study area is essential for improving patient care and outcomes. Recent advances in research have highlighted the importance of early intervention and multidisciplinary approaches in managing these complications. Studies have shown that targeted therapies and supportive care can significantly reduce the incidence and severity of oral side effects. Furthermore, ongoing research into the biological mechanisms of fibrosis and mucositis is paving the way for innovative treatment options that could enhance the quality of life for cancer patients.

We invite submissions on a range of topics that include but are not limited to:

  • Management of mucositis in cancer patients
  • Impact of radiotherapy on oral health
  • Saliva production and cancer treatment
  • Osteonecrosis of the jaw: prevention and treatment
  • Fibrosis related to cancer therapies
