BMC Health Services Research is calling for submissions to our Collection on secondary analysis of insurance claims for policymaking. This collection aims to showcase research leveraging claims data to inform healthcare policy, enhance delivery, and improve patient outcomes. We welcome original research, systematic reviews, and scoping reviews on topics such as the impact of insurance policies on healthcare utilization, cost-effectiveness, healthcare expenditure trends, access and equity in coverage, predictive modeling for policy planning, quality of care assessments, policy interventions to reduce disparities, and methodological advances in claims data analysis.

Eva Blozik, PhD, MPH, Institute of Primary Care, University Hospital, & SWICA Healthcare Organisation, Switzerland

Dr Blozik is a physician specialized in public health medicine, health services researcher involved in various research and implementation projects that aim to evaluate and increase quality and efficiency of the Swiss and German healthcare system. Dr Blozik is heading the department of health services research at SWICA, a large Swiss health insurance company with many activities in the field of integrated care. She is affiliated with the Institute of Primary Care, University Hospital, Zurich, Switzerland.

Dennis Häckl, PhD, Institute of Public Finance and Public Management, Leipzig University, Germany

Dr Häckl is director of the Institute of Public Finance and Public Management and associate professor for Health Economics and Management at Leipzig University. He is founder and director of the WIG2 Institute in Leipzig.  As part of Dr Häckl's research work, Dennis focuses on the financing of the health care system and the economic evaluation of civilization diseases such as type II diabetes mellitus or obesity. His research and publications are mainly based on the analysis of health claims data of sickness funds in Germany.

BMC Health Services Research is calling for submissions to our Collection on secondary analysis of insurance claims for policymaking.

Secondary analysis of health insurance claims data provides a rich resource for understanding healthcare utilization, costs and patient outcomes. The collection focuses on harnessing this data to inform and enhance healthcare policymaking by re-examining previous insurance claims to uncover valuable insights. The aim is to showcase research that leverages claims data to provide evidence-based policy decisions, optimize healthcare delivery, and improve patient outcomes. This Collection invites original research articles, systematic reviews, and scoping reviews that highlight innovative methodologies, significant findings, and practical implications for healthcare systems and policy frameworks, addressing both the challenges and opportunities in utilizing claims data for policy analysis. Topics may include but are not limited to:

  • Impact of insurance policies on healthcare utilization
  • Cost-effectiveness analysis using claims data
  • Trends in healthcare expenditure and outcomes
  • Evaluating access and equity in healthcare coverage
  • Predictive modeling for health policy planning
  • Integration of claims data with other health data sources
